RIGA - The State Police (VP) detained a 13-year-old teenager who reached a speed of 235 kilometers per hour (km/h) in his parents' car while fleeing from the police, the VP informed LETA.
On the night from Monday to Tuesday this week, police were conducting an alcohol test on drivers on Brivibas Street in Riga until a Skoda driver defied police orders to stop the vehicle and started fleeing.
The officers repeatedly demanded the driver to stop the vehicle, but he continued to flee and then turned onto the Tallinn Highway. During the attempted escape, the driver was driving aggressively and breaking the speed limit, even driving at 235 km/h.
The fleeing driver was driving in the direction of Saulkrasti, so a decision was taken to deploy reinforcements from the Saulkrasti Municipal Police.
The officers managed to stop the driver of the vehicle in Saulkrasti. The law enforcement officers found out that the vehicle was being driven by a 13-year-old youth who had taken the vehicle from his parents.
There were two other minors in the car whose safety was endangered by the driver's actions.
The VP has opened criminal proceedings for violation of road traffic rules by aggressive driving after repeated requests to stop the vehicle by an official of a competent authority.
