RIGA - The Saeima on Thursday adopted amendments to the Education Law, which will ban the use of mobile phones in schools from Grade 1 to Grade 9 (including), except in cases when a teacher has authorized their use in the educational process.
Until now, this ban applied to pupils up to Grade 6.
The ban will come into force on June 1, 2026, after the end of the current school year.
As reported, in 2024 the parliament adopted amendments to the Education Law which banned the use of mobile phones in schools up to Grade 6 from the start of the 2025/2026 school year, unless they are necessary for education process.
Educational institutions were made responsible for establishing the conditions and procedures for the use of technical means in teaching, learning and communication.
