VILNIUS - Lithuania will now exchange e-prescription data with Finland and the Czech Republic, meaning people can use Lithuanian electronic prescriptions to buy medications in these countries, the Center of Registers announced on Monday.
The exchange of e-prescription data between Lithuania and other EU countries allows people traveling abroad to purchase the medications they need with e-prescriptions issued in Lithuania.
The Center of Registers, which administers Lithuania's electronic health services system, noted that an increasing number of EU citizens will also be able to buy medications in Lithuania using e-prescriptions from their home countries.
"The digitization of health services in Lithuania is ahead of many EU countries. For this reason, data exchange with other countries is taking place gradually, as soon as these countries are ready," Domantas Ozerenskis, head of the eHealth Unit at the Center of Registers, said in the press release.
"We are noticing that more and more people are taking advantage of the opportunity to purchase prescription medications in another country," he added.
Lithuania is already exchanging e-prescription data with its neighboring countries Latvia, Estonia, and Poland, as well as Spain, Greece, and Portugal.
