VILNIUS - Lithuania has scheduled an evacuation flight from the United Arab Emirates due to ongoing military actions in the Middle East.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs said on Wednesday that it will be a charter flight expected to take place in the coming days, although the exact time has not yet been determined.
“In addition to the charter flight, other evacuation options are being considered, and negotiations are underway with EU member states for places on their organized flights,” the ministry stated.
The National Crisis Management Center is preparing evacuation plans, while the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is informing citizens who have requested assistance and providing necessary consular support.
“The situation in the region is complex and dynamic, so decisions are being made in stages, assessing threats to citizen safety, air traffic restrictions, and risks of land travel in the region,” the ministry added.
Priority during the evacuation is given to the most vulnerable groups, including persons with disabilities, pregnant women, families with young children, unaccompanied minors, and the sick.
Approximately 2,000 Lithuanian citizens are in the region, with the largest number – over 1,000 – in the United Arab Emirates.
