RIGA - European tourists currently choose the Baltic States as travel destinations relatively little, said Rolands Birgelis, Chairman of the Board of tour operator Tez Tour, in an interview with LETA.
He said that at the moment, travelers from the other Baltic States, Scandinavia and a little bit from Germany come to Latvia, but Tez Tour does not work as an operator in these markets.
"Tez Tour flies to Egypt, for example, and there the Tez Tour host office also has an outbound tourism department that organizes flights from Cairo. But Egyptian travelers do not choose the Baltics. They want to fly to Paris, Rome, for example, to see the big European metropolises," Birgelis added.
He noted that hotel representatives from host countries also come to the Baltic States to inform travel agents about what is on offer, and they are impressed by the nature of the Baltic States. This would allow Tez Tour to develop inbound tourism and bring travelers from the places where Tez Tour flies.
At the same time, Birgelis also acknowledged that the scale of such trips would not be large.
