TALLINN - The European Parliament will convene for an extraordinary plenary session in Brussels on Tuesday, with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy scheduled to participate remotely.
The session will begin at 11:15 a.m. Estonian time, and Zelenskyy will address the members of parliament via video link at the start of the meeting. The plenary will then discuss the latest developments in the war, followed by a vote at 12:30 p.m. on a resolution based on the debate.
According to President Roberta Metsola, the parliament aims to demonstrate the EU's continued and unwavering support for Ukraine with this extraordinary session. Since February 2022, the EU and the European Parliament have provided comprehensive assistance to Ukraine, imposed sanctions on Russia, and offered financial, political, military, and humanitarian support. Just two weeks ago, on February 11, the parliament approved a new loan of 90 billion euros for Ukraine.
The European Parliament also supports Ukraine's accession to the European Union and recognizes the tremendous efforts Kyiv has made towards this goal under extremely difficult circumstances. The Parliament urges Ukraine to continue with its reforms and has called on the European Commission to open new negotiation chapters with Ukraine to advance the accession process as swiftly as possible.
The Parliament's solidarity with Ukraine is further affirmed by the opening of its liaison office in Kyiv in September 2025. This close partnership is evidenced by President Metsola's visits to Kyiv and the Verkhovna Rada, as well as President Volodymyr Zelenskyy's visits to the European Parliament.
