TALLINN - A delegation from the Estonian Parliament's Foreign Affairs Committee is in Latvia on Thursday and Friday for a meeting with their Baltic counterparts to discuss cooperation on strengthening regional security.
According to Marko Mihkelson, chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee, the meeting of the Estonian, Latvian, and Lithuanian foreign affairs committees is an annual tradition to discuss current foreign and security policy issues, align positions, and plan future actions. This year's meeting in Rezekne, held in light of recent drone incidents affecting all Baltic states, will focus on regional security. Discussions will cover Russia's influence operations, other hybrid threats, and how to bolster societal resilience.
The delegations will also visit Latvia's eastern border to get an overview of the situation and the construction of the Baltic defense line. In addition to the committee delegations, representatives from the Latvian Ministry of Defense, the armed forces, and the border guard will attend the meeting.
The Riigikogu delegation also includes Foreign Affairs Committee members Ester Karuse and Henn Põlluaas.
