Today, marking the start of Financial Literacy Week 2026, the signing of a memorandum of cooperation was announced. Through this memorandum, 28 organisations, led by Latvijas Banka, will strengthen their commitment to improving the financial literacy of the Latvian population.
To ensure more effective implementation of the National Strategy for Financial Literacy in Latvia 2021–2027, cooperation partners will renew and sign a memorandum of cooperation. Having evaluated their previous collaboration, the partners agreed that the work of the National Financial Literacy Working Group could be improved by refining the priority areas, the collaboration structure, and the range of partners involved.
"As financial literacy is a very broad area and its various aspects are addressed by a diverse range of experts and institutions, the memorandum defines clearer partner responsibilities in achieving common goals. It is essential that each stakeholder takes responsibility for the issues within its domain and actively works to resolve them," emphasises Aija Brikše, Head of the National Financial Literacy Working Group and Head of the Financial Literacy Division at Latvijas Banka.
Latvijas Banka will continue to coordinate the implementation of the strategy and the activities of the National Working Group. Work intensity in the priority areas will increase, given the very broad range of topics, and it is important to focus on specific aspects within the set deadline.
"We are pleased with the widespread interest from partners in the private, public, and non-governmental sectors. Financial literacy is increasingly appearing on the agenda of stakeholders. It often serves as the foundation for people to use financial services, withstand various crises, and navigate complex situations independently," notes Aija Brikše.
Priority areas in financial literacy until 2027 are:
- strengthening the financial literacy of students and teachers;
- improving investment culture;
- promoting responsible borrowing and resolving financial difficulties;
- supporting research on financial literacy.
The memorandum will be signed by 28 partners: Latvijas Banka, the Ministry of Finance, the Ministry of Economics, the State Education Development Agency, the Consumer Rights Protection Centre, the State Employment Agency, the University of Latvia, the EKA University of Applied Sciences, Riga Technical University, the Finance Latvia Association, the Association of Financial Education, the Latvian Insurers Association, the Fintech Latvia Association, the "FOUNDATION FOR GROWTH", the Latvian Investors' Club, Junior Achievement Latvia, Swedbank AS, the Latvian branch of Luminor Bank AS, AS SEB banka, Signet Bank AS, AS Citadele banka, the Latvian branch of SK ID Solutions AS (Smart‑ID), AS Kredītinformācijas birojs, BluOr Bank AS, AS Industra Bank, SIA Inbank Latvia, SIA IPF Digital Latvia, the investment platform Mintos.
